One of the most annoying things is to have your phone or tablet go flying off the windshield because of that crappy or expensive suction cup holder. Worse, on a very hot day, especially down in #swfl, you head out to your Jeep and the suction completely came off the glass. It drives me crazy.
I searched for a bit looking for the perfect overland bar I can install in order to hold all the items I use. I needed something solid for my TrailDash II, cell phone, GoPro and an iPad (12″) pro. I came across the Vector bar which had great reviews, pretty straight forward on the install.
Install…
First step will be to remove the middle tray’s screw and two bolts in the center of your dash, where you throw your duckies into. Once the middle tray has been fully remove, you will have to pull up the tray rubber to expose the screws I am referring to, there will be two plastic covers you need to pop out one is on the driver side (close to the bottom of your windshield, the other on the passenger side). You will see by the windshield the cut out square shapes, pop it out gently with a plastic trim tool or a screwdriver, be careful with a screwdriver as you can scratch your dash plastic or damage it. Once you pop those out (mine went flying right out, I used a plastic trim tool) it will expose a bolt already in place. Hopefully neither are crooked as you will have an issue with installing this bar. If you do have a crooked bolt (which during the factory build, they sometimes bend one of these) you can use a long socket and try to bend it to the correct spot. Mine was good to go, I did not need to bend either of the two. Go ahead and follow the steps outlined in their instructions, pretty straightforward.
Peripherals…
Once you have the Vector bar in place, go ahead and grab your new Aluminum Anodized Arm and 20mm ball joint holders for your phone, iPad, etc. Take the ball clamps and make sure to not tighten one side down fully, you will need to tighten both sides down a little bit at a time. Once those are set, go ahead and attach your devices. Take a rag and then wrap that around the small handles used to tighten the clamps and use a set of plyers to tighten them down further.
Mine have been great so far, never comes loose, even during heaving off-roading. Highly recommend.
